Vasilis Katos

Vasilis Katos is Assistant Professor of Information and Communications Systems Security at Democritus University of Thrace. Prior to this post he was Principal Lecturer and course tutor for the MSc in Forensic IT at the University of Portsmouth in the UK. Dr. Katos obtained a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace in Greece, an MBA from Keele University in the UK and a PhD in Computer Science (Network security and cryptography) from Aston University. Dr. Katos’ research is in the area of information security and more specifically in network security, privacy, computer forensics and incident response. He has over 50 publications in journals, book chapters and conference proceedings and serves as a referee on several reputable conferences and journals (for example, IEEE Communications Letters, Computers & Security, Information Management and Computer Security) and has been invited to deliver the keynote speech on the 8th European Conference on Information Warfare and Security (ECIW 2010). He was Academic Advocate for Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) for 4 years and a member of the Institute of Information Security Professionals. In terms of industrial experience, he was security consultant for Cambridge Technology Partners (Novell, Inc) for two years, a defense expert for a criminal court in the UK and performed the security audit in 2009 for the Greek hub of the Netc@rds European project on electronic healthcare services.
